MERCURY RETROGRADE’S “SHADOW” PHASES ✨ I MERCURY RETROGRADE’S “SHADOW” PHASES ✨ I recently received a question about Mercury’s post-retrograde “shadow” and thought I’d share the answer here in case others are curious as well 💫. Essentially, when Mercury retrogrades, it appears to move “backwards” across a set of zodiacal degrees. During this past retrograde, those were the degrees between 4° Virgo - where Mercury began its retrograde on August 4th - and 21° Leo - where it concluded its retrograde yesterday. That said, before Mercury could move “backwards” over those degrees, it had to pass “forward” over them. So when Mercury first passed over 21° Leo back on July 17th, it entered what we call the “pre-retrograde shadow” and remained in this shadow phase until it stationed retrograde at 4° Virgo (on August 4th). Once Mercury finishes retrograding over those same degrees, as it did yesterday, it then has to move forward over them once more before we move into new zodiacal territory. This time is called the “post-retrograde” shadow and it will end when Mercury passes back over 4° Virgo on September 12th. We can therefore look at the Mercury Retrograde cycle as having three parts: the pre-retrograde shadow, the retrograde itself, and the post-retrograde shadow. From my experience, the pre-retrograde shadow sets the stage for the lessons we’re called to learn during the actual retrograde. We get triggered, have moments of déjà vu, experience communication challenges, fall in faults in our logic, get trapped in karmic mindsets, and so on. During the retrograde, we’re asked to slow down, go within, pay closer attention to our thoughts, perspectives, conversations, and inner narratives, and revisit the themes that arose in the weeks prior. And finally, the post-retrograde shadow is a time to take what we’ve learned and use it to evolve the lens through which we view the world and the filter through which we share those viewpoints before we move forward 🌟. VIRGO SEASON INSIGHTS & ORACLE ✨ Last week, the VIRGO SEASON INSIGHTS & ORACLE ✨ Last week, the Sun left its natural home in the Lion’s lair and settled into the humble and hardworking sign of the Virgin ♍️🌻. Virgo Season invites us to take a look at where we want to be in the future, then return to the present to craft a plan and devote ourselves to it with daily actions. If we don’t know which rituals and routines will help us meet our goals, Virgo encourages us to find mentors, guides, and teachers whose wisdom and expertise we respect, and allow them to help inform our process. If we want to feel healthier in mind, body, and/or spirit, we might turn to alternative healers, coaches, doctors, massage therapists, and so on to help close the gap between where we are and where we want to be. If we’ve been feeling lost or lacking direction, a session with a guru, therapist, or evolutionary astrologer might help us with the goals of clarity and self-actualization. And, more directly, if we want to be a marine biologist (librarian, priestess, etc.), connecting with and learning from a marine biologist is a great place to start/continue that journey. Whatever the intention or future vision may be, there are souls ready to support us and Virgo season is the perfect time to enlist their talents. AUGUST 4: NEW MOON IN LEO 🌑✨ Early this morn AUGUST 4: NEW MOON IN LEO 🌑✨ Early this morning, at 4:13am PT, we had an inspiriting, emboldening, & soul-stirring New Moon at 12° Leo ♌️. This Leo lunation is an invitation to uplift the world by simply sharing our unique, god(dess)-given gifts with others. These gifts live in our hearts and manifest as love incarnate. They feel like happiness and flow when we’re working with them, and fill our souls with passion and purpose 🌟. If we’ve forgotten our inborn gifts, we can remember them by tuning into our inner child, giving them space to express themselves, and honoring the wisdom they have to share - even if the avenues they point us down feel intimidating, impossible, or frivolous at first blush. As the Sun and Moon rendezvoused, they also formed a harmonious trine aspect with the Moon’s evolutionary North Node in Aries and a stimulating sextile aspect with both its karmic South Node in Libra and Mars in Gemini (the planetary ruler of the North Node in Aries). This celestial line-up suggests that tremendous soul growth is available to us now if we’re willing to take a risk and shine our authentic light 🌈💛. With the air element lending support to our fiery agenda, we might find that others are more receptive to our blossoming self-expression than usual. We may need to alter our approach, have a few empowered conversations, and shed our own fear- and rejection-based beliefs lest we project them onto others, but the world is ready for us to take flight if we are! UPDATES ✨ Hi, friends! I hope everyone is havin UPDATES ✨ Hi, friends! I hope everyone is having a playful and leisurely Leo Season ♌️🌻. Quite a few folks have reached out wondering if I’m still offering astrology readings, coaching sessions, etc. and the answer is yes! I’m working on reduced hours until Iris starts daycare later this year, but still have openings most weeks if you’d like to connect. You can use the link in my bio to schedule a session with me or book a free consultation 💫. On that note, I also had some clients recently reach out letting me know my website was inaccessible 🙈. I just resolved the issue and it’s back up and running for those who were attempting to visit it 😁. For the astro-curious healers out there and/or folks actively engaged in their own healing journey, I’ll be teaching an online class on August 22nd from 5-6pm PT on the Astrology of Healing ($22 USD). If you’d like to join, just shoot me a DM or comment here and I’ll get you registered. I’m hoping to resume teaching classes once per month on an array of astrological topics, so if there’s something you’d like me to offer a class on, just let me know 🌙! I also have a few group offerings coming soon, but will need a bit more time to get those set up and launched, so stay tuned ✨. On a personal note, Iris is now 9 months (and 13 days) old! We spent most of July traveling - first to visit Eric’s family in Mexico and more recently to spend time with my sister in Maui - and it was very fun and worthwhile, but simultaneously somewhat stressful and exhausting 😅. Perhaps that’s parenthood in a nutshell 🐿️. Iris is super communicative and curious (cue her exact Sun-Mercury conjunction in the 3rd house) and very active/mobile. She’s loving climbing (hello Capricorn Moon) and practicing her free-standing, and is even starting to dance a bit! She’s spirited, expressive, silly, courageous, and full of life 🌈. She definitely keeps me on my toes, but I wouldn’t have it any other way 🌟. More to come, but in the meantime, I’d love to hear a few updates from you all as well! There’s no room for this pattern as you bloom into your power and self sovereignty. JULY 5: NEW MOON IN CANCER 🌑✨ Later today, a JULY 5: NEW MOON IN CANCER 🌑✨ Later today, at about 3:57pm PT, we have a healing and cathartic New Moon at 14 Cancer ♋️. This lunation falls between two Capricorn Full Moons and sits conjunct asteroid Klotho (the spinner of fate), opposite dwarf planet Ceres (the great Roman mother goddess), and square the evolutionary lunar nodes. The opportunities for awakening to, feeling through, and releasing old familial, ancestral, and soul wounds are abundant under this lunation; as are the potentials for new life stories to be spun 🌈.
